Distance (Kilometres)
  • Leave the Leisure Complex by turning right from the main entrance onto Flemingate.  After 150 yards turn right again onto Spark Mill Lane.  Continue over the drain to a T-junction, turning right onto a bridleway past Cherry Tree Cottage.
  • Stay on the main track.  Swing right to cross the railway line with care and take in further bends to reach Long Lane.  Turn left along the road and then turn right into Willow Lane.  Pass the caravan site to reach a stile at the housing estate.
  • After the stile at the end of Willow Lane, take the metalled path alongside the estate and follow it where it bears right, away from the main route.  After 300 yards take the footpath ahead diagonally across a field with playground (to the right to Shepherd Lane).
  • Turn right, cross Lincoln Way and go up to the A164, Victoria Road.  Cross the A164 with care.  Turn right to head towards Beverley, going across the end of Normandy Avenue to a white house.  Here turn left up the lane and then turn right opposite the playing field.  Follow the footpath alongside fields, crossing the stiles as you go.  You will pass a small copse to reach the final stile.
  • Go straight ahead and cross Walkington Road.  After 50 yards turn right to pick up the green path of the main route down to the kissing gate at Minster School.  Take the footpath ahead alongside Minster School to reach the corner of Ellerker Road. Turn right and then left down Central Avenue, across the Leases and down to the main road.
  • With care, cross over a triangular green to enter Minster Moorgate.  Pass the Minster into Eastgate.  Turn right and follow the road left into Flemingate and so back to the Leisure Complex.

Features of Interest
-  This route was devised by members of the Beverley Athletic Club as a cross-country running route.  It is doubtful that they had time to spot any features of interest 'en route'.  However, if you walk in spring you will find the countryside to the south of Beverley entrancing with its wildflowers and birdsong.
