Description
  • From Newbald Road head across York Road and walk over the grass to a path running past the end of the racecourse and in front of the houses.
  • Immediately past the racecourse 'straight', bear left to pass through the narrow gap between the white fence and the college grounds.
  • Cross the fence into the racecourse track and continue around the course.  Notices may ask you to walk inside the track on the open, grazed area.
  • Leave the course by a path leading over the tarmac parking area and through an iron kissing gate onto York Road.
  • Walk past the cattle grid and cross the road.
  • A well-trodden path crosses the grass to Burton Bushes, the last remnant of the ancient West Wood.
  • Follow paths through the wood and emerge on the pasture to follow the boundary to the Walkington Road, where you cross over and continue alongside the boundary.
  • Bear away to the left, heading for the golf clubhouse (the old squat mill).  Pass the club entrance and turn right on the grass to head for the boundary hedge.
  • On reaching the school, turn left along the track to reach, and cross, Keldgate Road.
  • Take the path alongside the houses to Walkington Road and cross to continue through Newbegin Pits to return to the start.
