Description
  • From the traffic lights on South Street walk a few steps to the footpath sign by the pub.
  • Pass through the grounds of a house to reach the canal head.  After about another 200 yards your path joins the towpath.  From this point the path continues for three miles to the river Hull, so you decide how far to walk.

Features of Interest
-  The canal, almost 200 years old, is no longer open to the river.  There are no boats on it, which means that the only sounds are those made by the birds who enjoy this quiet sanctuary.  Others, equally enjoying the calm, are anglers who may have just come for the day, or who may be staying for a while in the tidy caravan site on the opposite bank.

-  You can see how centuries of drainage works have lowered the level of the carr land - the canal and path are considerably higher than the surrounding fields.
