  • As a small recreational facility in the countryside, Wayrham picnic area is an ideal place to start your walk.
  • If you only want to stretch your legs try a stroll up Wayrham Dale itself.  It is one of the many dry dales on the Wolds and one that can only be discovered on foot.  Walk as far as you want and then return, or if your sense of adventure has been stimulated continue along Bradeham Dale and then Pluckham Dale, both of which convey a feeling of solitude and tranquillity (sheep and skylarks will be your only company).
  • For the seven-mile stroll, follow the dales northwards to a point where a track runs up the eastern side.  This is the 'Wolds Way' and is marked with an acorn symbol.  This path runs eastwards on tracks and headlands across the high Wolds and through West Dale to the highest village on the Wolds, Fridaythorpe.
  • Follow the main road through the village and then the lane southwards (marked Wolds Way) to a stile.  Cross the stile and bear right.  The "Wolds Way" continues southwards along the attractive Holm Dale.  Follow a headland and then farm track to and past the wind swept but sturdy farmstead of Huggate Wold Farm.
  • Upon reaching a minor road, turn right and follow the roads to return to the picnic site.  Although the area may now appear to be unpopulated, evidence of the distant habitation can be found in the number of tumuli and earthworks adjacent to the walk.

Features of Interest
- The 'thorpe' in Fridaythorpe reflects the Danish origin of the village, named after the Danish queen of Heaven, Freya. Opposite the pond on the green is the path leading to the solid, simple church of St. Mary's which is hidden behind farms and cottages. Like many Wolds churches, it was restored for Sir Tatton Sykes, this time by C.H. Fowler in 1902. On one column of the church is the inscription "This 713 found here". What was 'found' remains a mystery.
