Description
  • Main route
  • Exit the Leisure Centre car park, using the path alongside the sports hall.  Head towards the riverbank, then follow the footpath on the top of the bank.  In dry weather this bank footpath can be a straightforward 'out and back' route.  You may find wet areas just after the park and before going under the railway bridge; these are marked on the map with (*).
  • Other options for this route in wet weather
  • a)  Start as usual, then use the steps in the park or the track just after the park and walk down to Hook Road.  Head towards Hook, continuing under the railway bridge and crossing the road after the sharp bend to follow the footpath on the left side of High Street.  Turn around after 30 minutes and retrace your route.
  • b)  Follow route a) but ignore the final instruction to retrace your route.  If you are a fast walker you can return to the Leisure Centre via Valway or Jefferson by turning left down either of the roads and turning left onto Garth Lane.  If you are a slow walker then you should make it to a small snicket called Garth Close, turning left down this passage and then left onto Garth Lane.  If you do not make it to Garth Close turn around after 30 minutes and retrace your route.
  • c)  Follow the main route instructions above.  However, when you reach the track near the railway crossing turn around on the riverbank and retrace your steps.  When you reach houses walk down a set of steps near a rose trellis to reach Riversdale Drive.  Turn left.  Turn left onto Hook Road and return to the Leisure Centre.
  • d)  Follow the main route instructions above but turn left when you reach the track alongside the railway line.  Next turn left onto Hook Road and walk to the main entrance of the cemetery.  Turn left into the cemetery and walk towards the riverbank to retrace your outward route.
