Description
  • This easy-to-follow route takes you into the peace of the  countryside at Gowdall Ings.  From the names applied to the area - 'Heck Ings', 'West Marsh', 'Snaith Marsh' and others - it seemed almost inevitable that Gowdall would be so disastrously affected by flooding in recent times.  Since the flood defences have been improved we must hope that residents, farmers and local businesses are now safe.
  • Use tracks and field edge paths by the old railway to reach the Aire.  You will then follow the floodbank around the twists and turns of the meandering river.
  • You leave the riverside to head south to Gowdall Lane and over the railway into Dorr Lane.
  • Next turn off to the west (right) along more field paths, crossing the dismantled railway and Field Lane to return to Gowdall.
