Description
  • "They talk about walking on top of the world, but walking on top of the Wold is good enough for me."  (A. J. Brown in 'Tramping in Yorkshire' from 1932.
  • Use this section of the National Trail to discover the delights of the Wolds for yourself.  Please use the map to find your way along this section of the Wolds Way.
  • Enjoy the charm of various dales and leave with your spirits uplifted.  Walk surrounded by broad, green horizons and under a sweeping canopy of sky.  The Yorkshire Wolds Way frees the senses as it takes you through the charming and tranquil landscapes on a journey of pastoral pleasure.  There's a magical charm to the Yorkshire Wolds Way, which uplifts and gratifies the spirit.  You're sure to enjoy the peace and tranquillity on offer.
  • It is said that a walk on the Yorkshire Wolds Way is a step back in time, and there is certainly little in the wide open fields and big skies to remind you of the modern world.  Perhaps what surprised and delighted me at first were the dry chalk valleys which suddenly appear in front of you, and through which you walk with the feeling of having entered another little world in which nature reigns both supreme and spectacular.  It is a quirky route too, constantly presenting unexpected delights and discoveries such as Welton where Dick Turpin was finally caught, and Market Weighton which is the 1787 birthplace of William Bradley who, at seven feet nine inches, was England's tallest man.
  • The Yorkshire Wolds Way is well-marked, and a perfect introduction to the Northern Trails; more gentle than most, but supremely memorable because of its very special qualities.  People have lived on the Yorkshire Wolds for thousands of years, leaving a wealth of heritage to explore.
  • (Malcolm Hodgson, National Trail Officer, The Wolds Way)
