  • From the roadside take the bridleway leading to the left of Nut Wood and follow it alongside the wood to a track leading away to the south.
  • Turn right at Little Wauldby Farm and walk westwards to Wauldby Manor.
  • Turn left by the dam and follow the field edge path to a concrete road, but don't go onto it.
  • Instead, turn right and walk to the road.  Follow the road northward to a junction with a Yorkshire Wolds Way sign on the right.
  • Follow the track eastwards past Waulby Green and the northern edge of Nut Wood to return to the start.

Features of Interest
Wauldby was a hamlet with a population of 86 about 120 years ago. It was a chapelry and township until 1866 and a civil parish until 1st April 1935 when it became part of Welton. The settlement has a small lake called Wauldby Dam and a chapelbuilt in 1853, on private land close to Wauldby Manor Farm. Some of the 19th century farm buildings have recently been turned into luxury accommodation.

Additional Information
From Nut Wood there is a fine view of Raywell, House. Standing in a country park of 35 acres, the historic manor house was once home to the renowned 19th century politician Daniel Sykes, a close friend of William Wilberforce.

Steeped in history, Raywell House was built in 1803 by local Member of Parliament for both Hull and Beverley, Daniel Sykes. Sykes commissioned Marmaduke Pycock of Wakefield to design the house, and ever since then this huge house has attracted the area's finest as its owners, from politicians to wealthy merchants and traders.

Until recently it was the headquarters of a pig farming business, but is currently in the hands of developers who are re-inventing the house and grounds as luxury accommodation and log cabins. (The tearoom premises is also a log cabin.)
