  • This 3.6 mile walk is described in an anti-clockwise direction starting from the car park on Beverley Road, Willerby, near the Square.  Alternatively you may prefer to start from the Haltemprice Leisure Centre on Gorton Road.
  • Take the steps leading from the car park to the railway embankment and walk along the tree-lined path.
  • Descend the steps and cross Gorton Road with care, to a public footpath passing behind the leisure centre.
  • Follow the passage between the houses, around the dog-leg, into Forty Steps.
  • At Wolfreton Road turn left and then right, along a public footpath leading to the former Springhead Pumping Station, with its beam engine and borehole where you were able to see the crystal clear water flowing below.  Unfortunately it is no longer open to the public.
  • Head northwards along a path to Willerby Road.
  • Cross the dual carriageway with care and take the public path alongside the golf course to Carr Lane.  You are now just within the boundary of Kingston upon Hull.
  • Turn left along the lane to the roundabout and, after a short distance turn right into Ashgate Road.  Follow it to Well Lane.
  • Turn left and head for Willerby Main Street, and left again to bring you to The Square.
  • Now it's just a few strides to the car park where you started.

Features of Interest
The original structure of the Springhead Pumping Station is a rectangular block built 1862-64. The 3 storey block was built in 1876. The original tall chimney was demolished in 1956-57. When it was open to the public as a museum it was a popular venue for school and college visits.
Accessibility Information
