  • Leave the car park and ride along the railway line, crossing the village road north of The Railway Inn.  The line runs in a long cutting and then onto an embankment, crossing the Lambwath Stream.
  • At the metalled road turn right (GR.172409) and ride along the road to the outskirts of Withernwick village.  Turn left (GR.193407) and ride for about ¼ mile to follow the road as it bends right (signposted Cowden).
  • Ride for two miles along this lane, and after passing Cowden Magna Farm on the right and a detached house, take the bridleway to the left (GR.224418).  Follow the waymarkers northward and then westward to Wood Farm.  (There are no waymarkers through the farm, but the route is obvious).
  • Follow the chalk road for a short distance and then bear left onto the bridleway to Hatfield Grange going via Mount Pleasant Farm.  (Take care here: there are two bridleways to the right, both of which are better marked then your east-west route).
  • From Hatfield Grange, ride to the road (GR.190426).  Turn right, ride past the cemetery, and immediately after take the bridleway on the left (GR.188426).  This leads through Manor Farm westwards along a short headland, through Clappisons Farm and onto the Hull road (GR.182426).  At the road turn right and ride to the Wrygarth Inn.  (An alternative route from the cemetery is to continue on the road and take the first village road to the left, which will also take you to the Wrygarth Inn).
  • Facing Wrygarth Inn (GR.182429), turn left and ride along Sigglesthorne Lane until you come to the old railway line.  Turn left onto the line, crossing one road on the way, and you will return to your starting point.
  • This ride is taken from the book, "Humberside on Horseback", and is included by kind permission of the British Horse Society.
