  • If you want a short stroll just follow the path northwards along Wayrham Dale and Bradeham Dale.  These two dales will give you a feeling of solitude and relaxation and, as on other walks in the area, your only company will be sheep and skylarks.  You may continue northwards along the route of the "Wolds Way" to the very attractive village of Thixendale.  Here you can obtain refreshment at the small pub.
  • For another enjoyable stroll, follow the paths southwards and westwards to the attractive village of Bishop Wilton with its farms and cottages set alongside the village stream.  Both these walks are approximately 2 1/2 miles long and make a pleasant round walk of 5 miles, with refreshment at the half way point in an attractive village.
  • The round walk itself is excellent and runs northwards along several sheltered dales and then up Painsthorpe Wold where the view is magnificent.  To the west stands the historic York and you can see the Minster, whilst to the north west catch sight of the White Horse on the distant Hambleton Hills.  Descend the scarp slope by a minor road past the hamlet of Painsthorpe to the truly delightfully situated village of Kirby Underdale.  This is a totally unspoilt estate village where a feeling of 'yesteryear' still exists.
  • From the village follow a delightful green lane rich in wild flowers and birdsong past Cheese Cake Wold and Garrowby Wold.  After crossing the main road, take the minor road before following tracks and paths across some very attractive countryside and through a magnificent dale to return to the picnic area.  The whole walk can be split into three shorter walks and you are strongly recommended to try one of them. If you try one you'll certainly want to try others!
