Description
  • Millington Wood is protected for nature conservation and public access.  It contains part of an ancient ash wood and has one of the richest floras in East Yorkshire.  There is a purpose-built car-park and picnic area at the entrance.  There is a full-time ranger to see to routine maintenance and to look after visitors.  Guided walks on various themes, for instance wildflowers, watercolour painting and photography, are held during summer.
  • If you prefer an informal stroll, just follow the paths for a delightful woodland walk of about a mile.  However, please be careful in places as the paths can be very slippery.
  • Main route: a few yards along the road outside, a public bridleway sign points uphill towards Millington Heights, a lonely farmstead perched above the valley.  Follow the track for half a mile before turning sharply downhill to your right.  This track, known as Thieve's Sty, is part of the old Roman road to Malton.  If the day is hot, cool your feet in the ford by the roadside before returning along the metalled road to the car-park.  This walk is just one of many routes based upon Millington Wood and the Pasture.
  • Fancy a longer walk?  On a three-mile route from Millington village, climb steadily past Rose Cottage and the Warrendale Plantation.  After following the Wolds Way long distance path for about a mile you drop back down to the village from Warren Farm.
