How do I represent on a new licence application?

Correspondence can be sent to the licensing authority in support of any application or if you feel you are likely to be adversely affected by any application made for a licence.

If you wish to make a representation or offer support to any application you can do so in writing to the licensing authority:

All correspondence must contain your full name and address and detail your points clearly, providing any evidence you may have in support of your comments.

These representations must be received by the licensing authority before the end date of the representation period for the application as shown in the application details below.

Please note: if you make a representation to any application, your comments will be in the public domain and at the end of the representation period, the applicant will receive a copy of your representations made. Please be aware this will include your name and address. The licensing process must be transparent and equitable for all parties and therefore unless there is exceptional circumstances your representation will be submitted for consideration in full. 

It is an offence to knowingly or recklessly to make a false statement in connection with an application punishable on summary conviction by an unlimited fine. 

Following the receipt of a valid representation, applications may be determined by the licensing committee at a hearing.

Please note: due to COVID-19 and remote working arrangements, we advise that all correspondence is emailed to the Licensing Authority, as we cannot guarantee timely receipt of any hard copy correspondence.

• Prevention of crime and disorder
• Protection of children from harm
• Public safety
• Prevention of public nuisance.

Premises Licences under the Gambling Act 2005

If you feel you are likely to be affected by any application made for a premises licence, because you feel the granting of such a licence will undermine any of the licensing objectives below you can lodge your concerns to the licensing authority:

• Preventing gambling from being associated with crime or disorder or being used to support crime
• Ensuring gambling is conducted in a fair and open way
• Protecting children and other vulnerable persons from being harmed or exploited through gambling.

The Licensing Authority cannot accept any representations on moral grounds or any which are vexatious or frivolous.

Representations must be received before the end of the 28-day representation period specified above.

Please note: if you make a representation that this will be in the public domain and that at the end of the representation period, the applicant will receive a copy of all representations made although your name and address can be withheld if requested.
