Sack collections

Request recycling or brown paper sacks for sack collection properties, what to put in waste sacks, putting your waste sacks out, text reminders and uncollected waste.

Can I request free waste sacks?

If you live in a sack collection property, such as a terraced house with no access to the back garden, we will leave you three black sacks when we collect your general waste.  You can also request the following free waste sacks:

  • clear sacks for recycling waste
  • brown paper sacks for garden and food waste.
Please note: sacks are only available for those properties on an approved sack collection system and not for properties with wheeled bins.

Request waste sacks

What waste goes into each sack?

The waste you put in:

  • clear waste sacks is the same as blue bin waste (recyclables)
  • brown paper sacks is the same as brown bin waste (garden and food waste)
  • black waste sacks is the same as green bin waste (other household waste).

When and where should I put my waste sacks out?

You must put your sacks out on the street at the edge of your property by 7am on the morning of your collection day.

Please note: your collections will temporarily change following a bank holiday. Check the bin collection checker to find out when your sacks will be collected over these periods.

For each collection you can put out:

  • three clear waste sacks (recycling)
  • one brown paper sack (garden and food waste)
  • three black waste sacks (other household waste).

Why weren’t my sacks collected?

The most common reasons for waste sacks not being collected are:

  • you didn’t put them out before 7am on your scheduled collection day
  • they weren’t accessible to our crew
  • parked vehicles have stopped our bin lorry reaching your property
  • it’s before 4.30pm on the day of collection - the bin crew may still come and collect your waste.

If none of the above reasons apply, find out if we can come back and collect them for you.
